Please read this before you use Glyco
South African law requires us to point out, clearly and up front, the parts of this agreement that limit our responsibility, place risk on you, or ask you to cover our costs. By using Glyco you are agreeing to all of them. In plain language:
- Glyco is not medical care. We are a software tool. Nothing we produce is medical, dietary, or coaching advice from a registered professional, and we are not a medical device. See clause 5.
- You check our outputs before you act on them. Fuel plans, calorie and macro estimates, pacing targets, injury risk scores and AI commentary can be wrong. You must verify them yourself, and with a qualified professional where it matters. See clauses 5, 6 and 7.
- You accept the risks of endurance sport. Training and racing can cause serious injury, illness and death. Using a Glyco plan does not move that risk onto us. See clause 24.
- Our financial liability to you is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the last 12 months or ZAR 1,000, and claims must be brought within 12 months. See clause 22.
- You indemnify us — if someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Glyco, you cover our reasonable costs. See clause 23.
- Disputes go to South African courts individually, not as a class action. See clause 27.
None of this removes rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, or POPIA. Where those Acts give you a protection we cannot lawfully exclude, that protection wins. If you are not comfortable with the terms above, do not use the Service.
1. About These Terms
1.1 The agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you ("you", "your", "User") and the person operating the Glyco platform ("Glyco", "we", "us", "our"), currently a sole trader based in the Republic of South Africa.
1.2 Who you are contracting with (ECTA section 43 disclosure)
Section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 25 of 2002 requires us to publish the following:
- Trading name: Glyco
- Legal name and status: [INSERT FULL LEGAL NAME], a natural person trading as Glyco in the Republic of South Africa. Glyco is not a registered company, close corporation, or partnership, and has no company registration number. Your contract is with that individual personally
- Physical address, and address for legal service of documents: [INSERT BUSINESS OR SERVICE ADDRESS, CITY, POSTAL CODE, SOUTH AFRICA]
- Telephone: [INSERT CONTACTABLE BUSINESS TELEPHONE NUMBER]
- Website: glyco.co.za
- Email: hello@glyco.co.za
- Privacy and data requests: privacy@glyco.co.za
- Payment facilitator: PayFast (Payfast (Pty) Ltd), South Africa
- Membership of a self-regulatory or accreditation body: none
We are not a registered healthcare practice, dietetic practice, coaching body, or financial services provider, and we hold no professional registration in any of those fields. If the business is later transferred to a company, we will update this clause and notify you under clause 28.4.
1.3 What these Terms cover
These Terms govern your access to and use of the Glyco website at glyco.co.za, the Glyco mobile and web applications (including the iOS and Android apps), the Glyco planner, the race blueprint library, the food and hydration diary, the product and food catalogues, the coaching features, printed products we sell, all Glyco APIs, and any related service we offer (collectively, the "Service" or "Platform").
1.4 Acceptance
By creating an account, or by accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, including the notice at the top of this page. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
1.5 Related policies
These Terms must be read together with our Privacy Policy, our Data Policy, and our Cookie Policy, all of which form part of the agreement between you and Glyco. Where these Terms conflict with a policy on a data-handling question, the Privacy Policy governs.
2. Eligibility
To use the Service, you must:
- be at least 18 (eighteen) years of age, or if you are between 16 and 18, be supervised by a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf;
- have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract under the laws of South Africa (or your country of residence, if different);
- provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account or interacting with the Service;
- not be barred from using the Service under any applicable law, including international sanctions lists.
The Service is not available to anyone under 16. If you are under 18, you must not use the energy-tracking features — anything estimating energy intake, energy expenditure, or an energy deficit — and you must not use the Service to pursue weight loss. We do not set weight-loss targets for users under 18, and we may restrict or withdraw any feature for a user we believe to be under 18 (see clause 6.6).
You warrant that all information you provide to Glyco is true, accurate, and complete, and you are responsible for keeping it accurate over time.
3. Account Creation and Security
3.1 Account creation
Certain features require an account. You may create one with an email address and password, by authenticating via a supported third-party identity provider (such as Strava, Google, or Apple), or by any other means we offer.
3.2 Account security
You are responsible for:
- safeguarding your account credentials and any device through which you access the Service;
- all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorised it;
- immediately notifying Glyco of any unauthorised access or suspected security breach by emailing hello@glyco.co.za.
Glyco is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this clause 3.
3.3 One account per person
You may not create more than one account, share your account with another person, or transfer your account without our prior written consent. Glyco models your physiology from the data on your account; sharing an account corrupts those models and produces plans that may be unsafe for both users.
3.4 Closing your account
You may close your account at any time by emailing privacy@glyco.co.za from your account's email address. We action deletion requests within 30 days and do not ask you to justify the request. What happens to your data on deletion is set out in the Privacy Policy.
4. The Service — What Glyco Provides
The Service provides informational and software tools to help endurance athletes plan training, fuelling, and racing. Functions include, but are not limited to:
- fuel and nutrition plan suggestions based on user-provided physiological data, race profile, and product catalogue;
- training plan generation, workout substitution, and strength plan generation;
- pacing, split, and finishing-time predictions based on goal time, route data, effort settings, and estimated fitness (including VDOT-style and threshold-based estimates);
- a food and hydration diary, including search of third-party food databases, barcode scanning, photo-based meal recognition, voice-based logging, and pantry scanning;
- estimates of energy intake, energy expenditure, carbohydrate availability, glycogen status, and energy availability;
- injury risk assessment and rehabilitation suggestions based on user-provided injury history and course profile;
- daily check-ins, readiness and recovery summaries, and daily briefings by email, push notification, or WhatsApp where you opt in;
- synchronisation with connected accounts and devices, including Strava, Garmin Connect, Apple Health, and FatSecret;
- parsing of screenshots you upload from other apps (for example recovery or activity screenshots) to extract metrics;
- export of plans to GPX, FIT, ZWO, PDF, CSV, and other file formats;
- race blueprints, knowledge articles, guides, and product comparisons;
- a catalogue of third-party nutrition products, with links to third-party brand partner stores;
- printed physical products that we sell and ship directly (see clause 18);
- AI-generated content and commentary (including "Glyco Coach" and the multi-model planning system we refer to as the Council), and features allowing a human coach to review your data.
Glyco is a software-as-a-service platform. We are not a healthcare provider, medical practitioner, dietitian, nutritionist, biokineticist, physiotherapist, sports physician, registered coach, or any other regulated professional service. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.
5. Medical Disclaimer — Not Medical or Professional Advice
This is the most important clause in these Terms. Read it carefully. By using the Service you confirm that you have read and accepted it.
5.1 No medical or professional advice
The Service is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. Nothing on the Platform constitutes, nor should be construed as constituting:
- medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescription, or monitoring;
- nutritional, dietetic, or dietary advice from a registered professional;
- advice from a sports physician, physiotherapist, biokineticist, or other healthcare practitioner;
- coaching advice from a registered coach in any sporting code;
- advice on the management of any pre-existing medical condition, injury, allergy, eating disorder, or pharmaceutical interaction;
- advice on the use of any medication, including weight-management or glucose-regulating medication;
- emergency medical guidance.
5.2 Not a medical device
Glyco is a general wellness and athletic planning tool. It is not a medical device, is not registered with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the United States Food and Drug Administration, or any equivalent regulator, and has not been evaluated by any regulator for safety or efficacy. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease or condition. No output of the Service should be used to monitor or manage a medical condition.
5.3 The Service is an assistant, not a decision-maker
The Service provides suggestions, estimates, and models that you use at your own discretion and risk. Every output — including fuel plans, calorie and macronutrient estimates, hydration and sodium targets, pacing strategies, glycogen and energy-availability forecasts, readiness scores, injury risk assessments, training and rehabilitation plans, product recommendations, and coach commentary — must be independently verified by you, and where appropriate by a qualified professional, before you act on it.
5.4 Consult a professional
You must consult a qualified healthcare professional, registered dietitian, sports physician, or other appropriately qualified practitioner before:
- commencing any new nutrition, hydration, supplementation, or energy-restriction regime;
- attempting a race or training session that exceeds your previous physical capacity;
- acting on any injury risk assessment, rehabilitation suggestion, or return-to-training suggestion produced by the Service;
- consuming any product recommended by or through the Service, particularly if you have allergies, intolerances, pre-existing conditions, or are taking medication;
- acting on any pacing or intensity recommendation that requires exertion beyond your assessed fitness level;
- using the Service alongside any prescribed medication, including appetite-suppressing, weight-management, glucose-regulating, cardiac, or blood-pressure medication.
This requirement applies with particular force if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, over 65, have any cardiovascular, metabolic, endocrine, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, or mental-health condition, have or have had an eating disorder or disordered eating, are recovering from illness or injury, or are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medication.
5.5 Medication
The Service may ask whether you are taking medication that affects appetite, digestion, glucose regulation, or heart rate, and may adjust its estimates accordingly. That adjustment is a modelling assumption, not clinical guidance. Glyco does not advise on dosage, timing, interaction, initiation, or discontinuation of any medication. Only your prescribing clinician can do that. Never change how you take a medication because of anything the Service shows you.
5.6 Emergencies
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact emergency services immediately (in South Africa, dial 10177 for an ambulance, or 112 from a mobile phone). Do not use the Service to seek emergency medical guidance. The Service does not monitor your data in real time and no one at Glyco is watching for signs that you are unwell.
5.7 No guarantee of accuracy, safety, or outcome
Glyco makes no representation or warranty that:
- the Service's recommendations are accurate, complete, current, or suitable for your specific circumstances;
- following any plan produced by the Service will result in any particular performance outcome, or will prevent injury, illness, bonking, gastrointestinal distress, dehydration, overreaching, or any other negative outcome;
- any nutritional value, calorie count, macronutrient split, or ingredient list shown in the Service is accurate;
- any third-party product recommended through the Service is safe for your physiology, allergies, or medical conditions;
- the Service's injury risk assessments will identify all relevant risks, or that anything the Service marks as "low risk" is in fact safe for you.
5.8 Self-experimentation responsibility
You acknowledge that endurance sport involves inherent risks, including dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, hyponatraemia, exertional rhabdomyolysis, gastrointestinal distress, relative energy deficiency, bone stress injury, musculoskeletal injury, cardiac events, hypothermia, hyperthermia, and death. You voluntarily assume all such risks. Your use of the Service does not transfer any of these risks to Glyco.
5.9 Listen to your body over the app
If your body and a Glyco plan disagree, your body is right. Stop, slow down, eat, drink, or seek help regardless of what any plan, target, streak, score, or notification tells you. Nothing in the Service should ever be treated as a reason to continue when you feel unwell.
6. Food, Nutrition and Hydration Logging
6.1 Everything is an estimate
Calorie, macronutrient, micronutrient, fluid, sodium, and portion figures shown in the Service are estimates. They are derived from third-party food databases, brand-supplied label data, public reference datasets, your own entries, and automated recognition of photos, barcodes, and voice descriptions. Every one of those sources carries error. Real portions, preparation methods, and product reformulations will differ from what the Service shows.
6.2 Photo, barcode and voice recognition
Where you photograph a meal, a package, or a shelf, scan a barcode, or describe food by voice, the Service uses automated recognition to guess what the item is and how much of it there is. This is frequently wrong — it may misidentify the food, the brand, the portion size, hidden ingredients, cooking oils, added sugar, and allergens. You must review and correct every automatically generated entry. Do not rely on automated recognition to determine whether a food is safe for you to eat.
6.3 Allergens, intolerances and dietary restrictions
The Service must never be used to determine whether a food is safe for an allergy, intolerance, religious requirement, or medically prescribed diet. Always read the manufacturer's packaging, and where the stakes are high, contact the manufacturer. Glyco accepts no liability for any allergic or adverse reaction, of any severity, arising from information shown in the Service.
6.4 Third-party food data
Food records may originate from third-party sources, including FatSecret, public government nutrition datasets, and brand-supplied data. We do not verify that data and we cannot correct it at source. Its accuracy, completeness, and currency are not warranted. Some of these sources impose their own terms on you as an end user; where a source requires attribution or restricts your use of its data, that restriction applies to you too.
6.5 Energy targets and deficits
Where the Service displays an energy target, an energy deficit or surplus, a carbohydrate availability figure, or an energy-availability estimate, that figure is a model output based on population-level assumptions and the data you supplied. It is not a prescription. Sustained under-fuelling carries serious health risks, including relative energy deficiency in sport (REDs), bone stress injury, hormonal disruption, and impaired immune function. Do not pursue an energy deficit without professional supervision.
6.6 Disordered eating
Food logging, calorie tracking, weight tracking, and deficit displays can trigger or worsen disordered eating. If you have, have had, or are at risk of an eating disorder, or if tracking makes you anxious or compulsive, do not use these features and speak to a qualified professional — the rest of the Service works without them. In South Africa, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) offers free support on 0800 21 22 23. You use these features at your own discretion and risk, and you accept that Glyco cannot detect, monitor, or intervene in disordered eating behaviour.
6.7 Your inputs drive your outputs
The Service cannot know what you did not tell it. Missing, incomplete, or inaccurate logs produce misleading estimates, and the Service will present those estimates with the same confidence as accurate ones.
7. AI-Generated Content and Automated Processing
7.1 Where we use AI
Certain features ("AI Features") use large language models, vision models, and speech-to-text models. These include plan generation and the multi-model planning system we call the Council, "Glyco Coach" commentary and chat, rationale and verdict explanations, photo-based food and pantry recognition, screenshot parsing, voice transcription of logs and activity notes, workout substitution, injury analysis, race analysis, grocery lists, and various natural-language summaries.
7.2 AI limitations
You acknowledge and agree that:
- AI Features produce probabilistic outputs that may be incorrect, incomplete, outdated, biased, or contextually inappropriate;
- AI Features may produce content that appears authoritative but is factually wrong ("hallucination");
- AI Features may reference products, dosages, scientific studies, or recommendations that do not exist or are misapplied;
- vision models may misread a photo, a label, or a screenshot, and speech models may mistranscribe what you said;
- AI Features have no understanding of your individual physiology, medical history, or risk factors beyond what you provide as input;
- AI Features cannot replace human professional judgement.
7.3 Independent verification mandatory
Every output from an AI Feature must be independently verified by you before you act on it. This applies with particular force to anything touching health, nutrition, medication, injury, pacing, or product use. You must not rely solely on AI-generated content to make race-day, training, or dietary decisions.
7.4 No warranty on AI outputs
Glyco makes no warranty, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or suitability of any AI-generated content. AI Features are provided "as is" and "as available", and may be changed, degraded, rate-limited, or withdrawn at any time.
7.5 Third-party AI providers
AI Features are powered by third-party providers. We currently use OpenAI, L.L.C. and a model gateway operated by Lovable that routes to providers including Google. The specific providers in use at any time are listed in our Data Policy, which we update when they change. Your use of AI Features is also subject to those providers' acceptable use policies. Data sent to them, and where it is processed, is described in our Privacy Policy.
7.6 Automated decision-making and your right to a human
Plans, scores, readiness verdicts, and risk assessments are generated automatically, without a human reviewing them first. Section 71 of POPIA gives you the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing where that decision has legal consequences for you. No output of the Service has legal consequences for you: nothing the Service produces determines your access to credit, employment, insurance, medical treatment, or any legal right. If you nevertheless want a human to look at how an output about you was produced, email privacy@glyco.co.za and we will review it and explain the reasoning.
7.7 Ownership of AI output
You may use AI-generated content produced for you within the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. AI-generated content is not unique to you — the same or similar output may be produced for other users — and we make no claim that it is protectable by copyright or that you may claim exclusive rights in it. You may not present AI-generated Glyco content as professional advice to any other person.
8. Algorithmic Outputs — General
The Service uses algorithms and statistical models to estimate fitness, model glycogen depletion, project pacing, calculate fuel and fluid needs, predict heart rate, estimate energy expenditure and availability, and assess injury risk. These models draw on sports-science consensus literature and are continuously refined. You acknowledge that:
- all algorithmic outputs are estimates and predictions, not guarantees;
- models use population-level assumptions that may not apply to your individual physiology;
- outputs may differ materially from real-world outcomes;
- outputs depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of the data you and your connected accounts supply;
- you must independently verify any output before acting on it;
- the science underlying any model may be updated, revised, or contradicted by future research without notice, and we may change our models at any time — including in ways that change plans or scores you have already been shown.
9. Connected Accounts, Devices and Health Data
9.1 What you can connect
You may choose to connect third-party accounts and data sources, including Strava, Garmin Connect, Apple Health (HealthKit), and FatSecret. Connecting is always your choice and you control the scope you grant. You can revoke a connection at any time in the third party's own app or account, or by emailing us — see clause 3.3 of the Privacy Policy.
9.2 Apple Health
On iOS you may permit Glyco to read data from Apple Health, including workouts, sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, and body mass. We only read; we do not write to Apple Health. We use Apple Health data solely to operate the Service's health, fitness, training, and fuelling features. We never use it for advertising, marketing, or advertising measurement; we never sell it; we never share it with a data broker; and we never use it for any purpose other than your health, fitness, and the operation of the Service. You can revoke access at any time in the iOS Health app or Settings.
9.3 Accuracy of imported data
Data imported from a device, app, or wearable carries that source's error, and the transformations we apply (for example estimating a training load, a recovery state, or a calorie burn) add error of their own. We do not verify imported data and cannot correct it at source. Where a sync fails, is delayed, is partial, or silently stops, the Service will still produce outputs from whatever data it has, and those outputs may be materially wrong.
9.4 Screenshots of other apps
The Service can extract metrics from screenshots you upload from other applications. You are responsible for ensuring that you are permitted to upload that material under the other application's terms, and for not uploading screenshots containing another person's personal information. Extraction is automated and may misread values.
9.5 Loss of a connection
A third party may change, restrict, price, or terminate its API at any time, with or without notice to us. If that removes a feature you rely on, we are not liable for that loss, and it does not entitle you to a refund except as required by law.
10. Third-Party Products and Brand Partnerships
10.1 Product information
The Service displays nutrition products supplied by third-party brand partners ("Brand Partners"). Glyco does not manufacture, distribute, sell, package, or hold stock of any Brand Partner product displayed on the Platform. The only goods we sell directly are the printed products described in clause 18.
10.2 No endorsement of safety or efficacy
The presence of a product on the Service is not an endorsement of its safety, efficacy, quality, legality, or suitability for you. Product information (including nutritional content, ingredients, claims, and price) is supplied by Brand Partners or scraped from public sources. Glyco makes no representation that it is accurate, complete, or current.
10.3 Allergens and ingredients
You are responsible for verifying the ingredients, allergens, and nutritional content of any product before consuming it. Always check the manufacturer's packaging, and consult a healthcare professional if you have allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions. Glyco will not be liable for any adverse reaction to any product.
10.4 Banned substances and competition eligibility
Glyco does not screen products for substances prohibited by WADA, SAIDS, or any sporting federation, and does not verify batch-testing or certification claims. If you compete under an anti-doping code, verifying that anything you consume is permitted is your responsibility alone. Glyco accepts no liability for any anti-doping violation, sanction, disqualification, or loss of eligibility.
10.5 Purchasing from Brand Partners
If you purchase a product via a link from the Service to a Brand Partner's store, that transaction is between you and the Brand Partner. Glyco is not a party to it, does not handle payment for it, and has no responsibility or liability for it — including for pricing, availability, delivery, defects, refunds, returns, or any harm caused by the product.
10.6 Affiliate disclosure
Glyco may earn an affiliate commission, referral fee, or other consideration when you purchase a product through a link on the Service, and Brand Partners may pay us for placement, partnership, or reporting. This does not influence the plans the Service produces for you: the fuelling algorithm operates independently of commission structure. Where a placement is paid, we label it.
11. Third-Party Services and Integrations
11.1 Which services
The Service depends on third parties including Supabase (hosting and database), OpenAI and the Lovable AI gateway (AI processing), Strava, Garmin Connect, Apple Health, FatSecret, Mapbox (maps and elevation), Open-Meteo (weather), Resend (email), PostHog (product analytics), PayFast (payments), and others listed in our Data Policy ("Third-Party Services").
11.2 Separate terms apply
Your use of any Third-Party Service is governed by that service's own terms and privacy policy. You are responsible for reviewing and complying with those terms.
11.3 No responsibility for Third-Party Services
Glyco is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, content, security, or practices of any Third-Party Service, and does not endorse and is not liable for anything they offer. An outage or failure at a Third-Party Service may make part or all of the Service unavailable.
11.4 Data sharing with Third-Party Services
When you authorise an integration, you authorise Glyco to share the data necessary to operate it. What is shared, with whom, and why is described in our Privacy Policy.
12. Coaches and Coaching Features
12.1 Coaches are independent
Where the Service allows a human coach to view your data, comment on your plans, or work with you, that coach is an independent third party. Coaches are not employees, agents, partners, or representatives of Glyco. Glyco does not employ, supervise, direct, train, certify, vet, insure, or endorse any coach.
12.2 No liability for coaching advice
Any agreement between you and a coach is between the two of you alone. Glyco is not a party to it and has no liability for anything a coach says, does, advises, prescribes, omits, charges, or promises, including any resulting injury, illness, or loss. We provide the software the two of you communicate through; we do not review the substance of coaching relationships.
12.3 Verify credentials yourself
You are responsible for satisfying yourself that any coach you engage holds the qualifications, registrations, and insurance appropriate to what you are asking of them.
12.4 What a coach can see
Linking a coach gives them access to the athlete data described in our Privacy Policy, which may include health, injury, dietary, and body-composition information. Link a coach only if you are comfortable with that. You can revoke access at any time, though that does not retrieve what they have already seen, recorded, or exported.
12.5 If you are a coach
If you use the Service as a coach, you warrant that you hold the qualifications and registrations you claim; that you have your athlete's informed consent to access their data; that you will use it only to coach that athlete and will not retain it after the relationship ends beyond what the law requires; that you will comply with POPIA and any applicable professional code as an independent responsible party for your own records; and that you will not present Glyco outputs to your athletes as medical or dietetic advice. You indemnify Glyco against any claim arising from your coaching activity, in addition to the indemnity in clause 23.
13. User Obligations
13.1 Lawful use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
13.2 Accurate inputs
You agree that all data you input (including weight, height, age, sex, injury history, medical conditions, medication, allergies, food logs, and goal times) will be accurate to the best of your knowledge. You acknowledge that inaccurate inputs produce inaccurate outputs, and that plans built on them may be unsafe for you.
13.3 Personal supervision
You agree to supervise your own use of any plan or recommendation, and to stop, slow, or modify any race or training session that produces symptoms of distress, illness, or injury, regardless of what any plan tells you to do.
13.4 Content you upload
You agree that any photo, screenshot, audio recording, file, or route you upload is yours to upload; does not contain another person's personal information without their consent; does not contain another person's copyright material; and does not contain anything unlawful. Do not photograph other people, other people's documents, or medical records belonging to anyone but you.
13.5 No reverse engineering
You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying algorithms of the Service, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
13.6 No automated access
You may not access the Service through any automated means (including scrapers, bots, spiders, or headless browsers) without our prior written consent, and you may not exceed any published rate limit.
13.7 No interference
You may not interfere with the operation of the Service, probe or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of it, circumvent any usage limit or paywall, or disrupt any other user's use of it. Good-faith security research reported responsibly to hello@glyco.co.za is welcome and will not be treated as a breach of this clause.
14. Prohibited Uses
You must not use the Service to:
- violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right;
- provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information;
- impersonate any person or entity;
- collect or harvest personal information about other Users;
- upload another person's health, medical, or personal information without their consent;
- transmit any malicious code, virus, or other harmful software;
- provide medical, nutritional, coaching, or rehabilitation advice to other Users through Service features, other than via an opted-in coaching relationship and within your own professional competence;
- re-sell, sublicense, white-label, or commercially exploit the Service or any of its content or outputs without our prior written consent;
- suggest that you hold a professional credential (such as "registered dietitian" or "sports physician") that you do not hold;
- use Service outputs to build, train, fine-tune, evaluate, or distil any machine learning model without our prior written consent;
- circumvent, disable, or interfere with any safety warning, disclaimer, age gate, or rate limit.
15. User-Generated Content
15.1 Definition
"User Content" means any content you submit to the Service, including athlete profile data, food and hydration logs, meal photographs, pantry photographs, screenshots, voice recordings and their transcripts, plan names, fuel point notes, injury logs, routes and GPX files, product reviews and ratings, coach reviews, social shares, and feedback.
15.2 Ownership
You retain ownership of your User Content. Submitting it does not transfer ownership to Glyco.
15.3 Licence to Glyco
By submitting User Content you grant Glyco a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, and display that User Content for the purpose of operating, securing, supporting, and improving the Service for you. This licence lasts as long as we hold the content and ends when the content is deleted, except for (a) copies retained in backups until they expire, (b) content we must retain by law, and (c) aggregated or de-identified data under clause 15.4. We will not publish your User Content publicly, or use it in marketing, without your separate consent.
15.4 Aggregate and de-identified data
We may use User Content in aggregated, anonymised, or de-identified form for any purpose, including product development, model calibration, research, reporting to Brand Partners, and publication. De-identified data is not linked back to you and its use survives deletion of your account, because by then it is no longer your personal information. Our de-identification standard is set out in the Data Policy.
15.5 No obligation to publish or retain
We are not obligated to publish, retain, or display any User Content and may remove it at any time in our reasonable discretion, for example where it is unlawful or breaches these Terms. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you would not want to lose; the export tools in the Service are provided for that purpose.
15.6 Your responsibility
You are solely responsible for your User Content, and you warrant that it does not infringe any third-party right, contain unlawful content, or breach these Terms.
16. Intellectual Property
16.1 Glyco's IP
All intellectual property in the Service — including source code, designs, graphics, logos, trade marks, text content, algorithms, models, race blueprints, the Glyco Score, and the GLYCO mark (excluding User Content and Brand Partner content) — is owned by or licensed to Glyco. All rights are reserved.
16.2 Limited licence to you
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Glyco grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
16.3 No other rights
No rights are granted other than those expressly stated. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service except as expressly permitted or with our prior written consent.
16.4 Feedback
If you provide feedback or suggestions about the Service, you grant Glyco an unrestricted, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that feedback for any purpose without compensation or attribution.
16.5 Infringement complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your intellectual property, email hello@glyco.co.za with the material complained of, its location, proof of your rights, and your contact details. We will investigate and remove infringing material where the complaint is substantiated.
17. Subscriptions, Fees and Payment
17.1 Tiers
The Service is offered on a free tier and may be offered on one or more paid tiers ("Subscriptions"). Where a paid tier is available, its features, price, billing cycle, and any trial terms are shown to you in the Service before you are asked to pay, and may change on reasonable notice. Nothing is charged to you without that price being displayed first.
17.2 Billing
By subscribing, you authorise Glyco or its appointed payment processor to charge your nominated payment method on the agreed billing cycle until you cancel. Card details are handled by the processor; we do not receive or store your full card number.
17.3 Pricing and VAT
Unless otherwise stated, prices are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR) and include South African Value Added Tax where we are liable for it. International users may be charged in local currency at rates set by the payment processor, and your bank may add conversion or cross-border fees we neither set nor receive.
17.4 Auto-renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You may cancel auto-renewal at any time in your account settings, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
17.5 Price changes
We may change Subscription pricing. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle and we will give you at least 30 days' notice. If you do not accept a price change, cancel before it takes effect.
17.6 Your cooling-off right (ECTA section 44)
Because you buy from us electronically, section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you the right to cancel a transaction without reason and without penalty within 7 (seven) days of concluding it, and to receive a refund of what you paid within 30 days. For a Subscription, email hello@glyco.co.za within 7 days of the charge. For printed goods, see clause 18. This right does not apply to the categories excluded by section 42(2) of that Act.
17.7 Refunds generally
Beyond clause 17.6, Subscription fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008. If you cancel mid-cycle you keep access to the end of the paid period and no refund of the unused portion is payable, except as required by law. If the Service materially fails to perform as represented for a reason within our control, request a pro-rata refund within 14 days of the failure by emailing hello@glyco.co.za.
17.8 Purchases made through an app store
If you buy a Subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that purchase is billed by the store, not by us, and the store's own refund and cancellation rules apply. Manage or cancel it in your store account — cancelling in Glyco does not cancel a store subscription, and we cannot refund a store charge on your behalf.
17.9 Failed payments
If a payment fails we may retry it, and may suspend or downgrade paid features until payment succeeds. We will tell you before we suspend access.
17.10 Free tier and trials
The free tier and any trial may be modified, restricted, or withdrawn at any time. We make no commitment to maintain any specific free-tier feature in perpetuity. Where a trial converts to a paid Subscription, we will tell you the price and the conversion date before it happens.
17.11 Brand Partner subscriptions
Subscriptions for Brand Partner accounts are governed by a separate brand partnership agreement.
18. Printed Products and Physical Goods
Where the Service offers a printed product that we sell and ship directly (for example a printed race grid), the following applies. This is the only category of physical goods sold by Glyco itself.
18.1 Orders and acceptance
Your order is an offer to buy. A contract forms only when we confirm the order and payment clears. We may decline any order, and if we do, we refund you in full.
18.2 Price and stock errors
If a price, shipping charge, or specification is displayed incorrectly, we will tell you before dispatch and you may confirm at the corrected price or cancel for a full refund. We will not silently charge you more than the price you were shown.
18.3 Delivery
We ship within South Africa unless stated otherwise. Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees. You must supply a correct and complete delivery address and a contactable phone number; we are not liable for a failed delivery caused by incorrect details you supplied. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery to you or to a person at your address. Delivery is by third-party courier and we are not liable for courier delay, though we will help you trace a delayed parcel.
18.4 Cooling-off, returns, and defects
You may cancel a printed-product order within 7 days of delivery under section 44 of the ECTA and return it unused for a refund of the purchase price; the direct cost of returning it is yours unless the goods were defective or not as described. Separately, sections 55 and 56 of the Consumer Protection Act give you 6 months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe, or not as described, for a repair, replacement, or refund at your election. Personalised or custom-printed items may be excluded from the 7-day cooling-off right where production has already begun, but never from your rights under sections 55 and 56. To start a return, email hello@glyco.co.za.
18.5 What you print is your content
Printed products reproduce your plan data and any content you supply. You are responsible for checking the proof before you order: we print what you approve, and we are not liable for an error in the data or artwork you submitted.
19. Mobile Applications and App Stores
19.1 Licence
The Glyco mobile applications are licensed, not sold, to you. Your licence is limited, non-transferable, and non-exclusive, and is restricted to devices you own or control, as permitted by the usage rules of the store you downloaded from.
19.2 Store terms
Your use of the app is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained it from. Where those terms conflict with these Terms in a way that is less favourable to you, the store's terms prevail to the extent of the conflict.
19.3 Apple-specific terms
For the iOS app: these Terms are between you and Glyco only, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, regulatory non-compliance, or consumer-protection claims, and is not responsible for investigating or resolving any third-party intellectual-property claim relating to the app. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any US Government restricted-parties list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this clause 19.3 and may enforce it against you.
19.4 Device permissions
Some features require your permission to access the camera, photo library, microphone, notifications, location, or Apple Health. You may grant or revoke each permission in your device settings; revoking one disables the feature that depends on it but does not otherwise affect the Service.
19.5 Connectivity and offline use
The Service needs a network connection for most functions. Cached data shown offline may be stale. Do not rely on the app being available or current during a race, and carry a paper or offline copy of anything you need on race day.
20. Suspension and Termination
20.1 By you
You may stop using the Service at any time, and close your account as set out in clause 3.4. Once deleted, you lose access to your saved plans, logs, and history, subject to our retention obligations in the Privacy Policy. Export anything you want to keep first.
20.2 By us
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access, with notice where reasonably practicable and immediately where not, if we reasonably believe that you:
- have breached these Terms;
- are engaging in fraudulent, abusive, or harmful behaviour;
- pose a risk to other Users, Brand Partners, coaches, or Glyco;
- have failed to pay a due fee;
- require us to act under any applicable law or court order.
Where we terminate for a reason other than your breach, we refund the unused portion of any Subscription you have paid for. We may also discontinue the Service as a whole on 30 days' notice, refunding the unused portion of your Subscription.
20.3 Effect of termination
Upon termination:
- your right to use the Service ceases immediately;
- fees already paid are non-refundable, subject to clauses 17.6, 17.7 and 20.2;
- clauses that by their nature should survive do survive — including clauses 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 27;
- we retain or delete your data in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
21. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.
Glyco specifically disclaims all warranties of:
- merchantability;
- fitness for a particular purpose;
- non-infringement;
- uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or secure operation;
- accuracy, completeness, currency, or reliability of any content, estimate, or output;
- that data will not be lost, delayed, or corrupted;
- compatibility with any other software, hardware, device, or service;
- safety, efficacy, or outcome of any plan, recommendation, or output.
Where the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 or any other law creates rights or implied warranties that cannot be excluded, those apply and nothing here limits them. In particular, nothing in these Terms is intended to be an unfair, unreasonable, or unjust contract term under section 48 of that Act.
22. Limitation of Liability
22.1 Cap on liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Glyco's total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms — whether in contract, delict, statute, or otherwise — is limited to the greater of (i) the total amount you paid Glyco for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (ii) ZAR 1,000 (one thousand South African Rand). This is an aggregate cap across all claims, not a cap per claim.
22.2 Excluded damages
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Glyco will not be liable for any:
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages;
- loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, opportunity, or anticipated savings;
- loss, corruption, or unavailability of data;
- loss arising from race-day performance, finishing time, ranking, prize money, qualification, entry fees, travel costs, or any sporting outcome;
- loss arising from an anti-doping sanction or loss of competition eligibility;
- loss arising from injury, illness, or medical condition that you assert was caused or contributed to by use of the Service;
- loss arising from a third-party product, service, integration, coach, or Brand Partner;
- loss arising from service unavailability, sync failure, delayed notification, or inaccurate estimate.
22.3 Time bar
Any claim arising out of or related to the Service must be brought within 12 months of the date you became aware, or reasonably ought to have become aware, of the facts giving rise to it. After that period the claim is waived, except where a longer period is prescribed by law and cannot be shortened by agreement.
22.4 Limitations apply broadly
The limitations in this clause 22 apply regardless of the cause of action, even if Glyco was advised of the possibility of the damages, and even if a limited remedy fails of its essential purpose. They are a fundamental basis of the bargain: the Service is offered at its price only because liability is limited in this way.
22.5 Mandatory protections preserved
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where the law does not permit it, including (a) liability for death or personal injury caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, (b) liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, (c) liability under section 61 of the Consumer Protection Act for harm caused by unsafe goods or a product defect, and (d) any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If a court finds any part of this clause unenforceable, the rest continues to apply and the unenforceable part is limited to the minimum extent necessary.
23. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Glyco and its owner, contractors, agents, and affiliates from and against all claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal costs on an attorney-and-own-client scale) arising out of or related to:
- your use or misuse of the Service;
- your breach of these Terms;
- your violation of any applicable law or third-party right;
- your User Content, including any photo, screenshot, or recording you uploaded;
- any plan, recommendation, estimate, or output of the Service that you implemented without independent verification;
- any harm you cause to yourself or any third party through your use of the Service;
- your activity as a coach, if you use the Service in that capacity.
This indemnity does not extend to a claim arising from our own gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or fraud, and does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by us. We will notify you promptly of any claim we intend to rely on this clause for, and will not settle a claim you are indemnifying without consulting you. This obligation survives termination.
24. Assumption of Risk — Training and Race-Day Use
This clause asks you to accept risk and to give up certain claims. Read it before you use the Service to plan any session or race.
Endurance sport involves significant inherent risk. By using the Service to plan or execute any race, training session, or physical activity, you:
- acknowledge that such activities can result in serious injury, illness, permanent disability, and death;
- confirm that you have voluntarily chosen to participate, and that using a Glyco plan is your own informed decision;
- confirm that you are medically fit to undertake the activity at the intensity planned, and that you have obtained, or will obtain before participating, medical clearance where appropriate;
- accept that the Service does not monitor you, cannot detect that you are in difficulty, and will not intervene;
- waive, to the maximum extent permitted by law, any claim against Glyco arising out of your participation, including a claim based on Glyco's ordinary negligence, but excluding gross negligence, wilful misconduct, fraud, and any liability that cannot lawfully be waived.
If you are not willing or able to make these acknowledgements, you must not use the Service to plan or execute any race or training session.
25. Privacy and Data
Your use of the Service is subject to our Privacy Policy, our Data Policy, and our Cookie Policy, which describe how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information.
The Service processes health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We process it on the strength of your consent, which you give when you enter it or connect a source that supplies it, and which you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing consent for health processing disables the features that depend on it.
26. Changes to These Terms
26.1 Right to amend
We may amend these Terms. We will publish the amended Terms here and update the "Last updated" date.
26.2 Notice of material changes
Where an amendment is material — including changes to fees, key feature limitations, our liability, or your rights — we will give you at least 14 days' prior notice by email or in-app notification before it takes effect.
26.3 Acceptance
Your continued use of the Service after an amendment takes effect constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms. If you do not accept an amendment, stop using the Service before the effective date and cancel any Subscription. A material amendment does not apply retrospectively to a dispute that arose before it took effect.
27. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
27.1 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
27.2 Jurisdiction
You and Glyco submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the High Court of South Africa, Western Cape Division, Cape Town, in respect of any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms. Nothing prevents you from bringing a claim in the Magistrates' Court or a small claims court with jurisdiction where that is more convenient for you.
27.3 Informal resolution first
Before starting formal proceedings, you agree to contact Glyco at hello@glyco.co.za with a written description of the dispute and to engage in good-faith discussions for at least 30 days. We agree to do the same.
27.4 Consumer remedies preserved
Nothing in this clause prevents you from referring a complaint to the National Consumer Commission, a consumer court, an accredited consumer ombud, or the Information Regulator, or from seeking urgent relief from a court.
27.5 Individual claims only
To the maximum extent permitted by law, disputes must be brought on an individual basis and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action.
28. General Provisions
28.1 Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Data Policy, Cookie Policy, and any other policy referenced, constitute the entire agreement between you and Glyco regarding the Service, and supersede all prior agreements and communications. This does not exclude liability for fraudulent misrepresentation.
28.2 Severability
If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it is severed or narrowed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions continue in full force.
28.3 No waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
28.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign ours to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
28.5 Force majeure
Neither party is liable for a failure to perform caused by an event beyond its reasonable control, including load-shedding, network or infrastructure failure, third-party service outage, natural disaster, epidemic, civil unrest, or state action.
28.6 Relationship
Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, agency, or fiduciary relationship between you and Glyco.
28.7 No third-party beneficiaries
These Terms confer no rights on anyone who is not a party to them, except for Apple under clause 19.3.
28.8 Notices
We may give you notice by email to the address on your account, by in-app notification, or by publishing on the Service. You must give us notice by email to hello@glyco.co.za. Keep your email address current; notice sent to a stale address is still valid notice.
28.9 Language
These Terms are concluded in English. Any translation is for convenience only, and the English version governs.
